Chicago is a city that’s known for its iconic landmarks, world-famous sports teams, and picturesque city skyline. The city also boasts some of the most delicious things to eat, and many of the best foods here have distinct flavors that you’ll only find in Chicago.
Chicago-style Hot Dog
Often referred to as a Chicago Dog, the Chicago-style hot dog offers a twist on the classic hot dog. The classic Chicago-style hot dog consists of a beef frank that’s topped with relish, white onions, and tomato slices. Sport peppers are also added for some extra spice. Yellow mustard, celery salt, and a dill pickle spread may also be added for additional flavoring. The hot dog is usually served on a poppy seed bun.
Pizza
Chicago and New York City are often considered to be rivals when it comes to their pizzas, but you’ll likely be won over by the tantalizing flavors of Chicago-style pizza when you try the pie here. The deep-dish pizza is a Chicago staple, but many of the local restaurants offer delicious pizzas with thinner crusts that can make for an excellent meal or snack. Pizza is especially a great option when you are feeding a large group of people. There are many local pizza shops such as the Italian Fiesta Pizzeria or other local restaurants that can fulfill your Chicago pizza experience.
Italian Beef Sandwich
This iconic Chicago sandwich was originally concocted in Chicago’s Little Italy because of a meat shortage during the Great Depression, and the Italian beef sandwich continues to be a hit with Chicago natives and visitors alike to this day. The sandwich consists of thin beef slices that are served on Italian bread. You can order the sandwich with sweet or hot peppers and either with or without the cheese.
