Sometimes some lakes leave a bigger impression than the seas and oceans with its crystal clear waters and unique beauty. The lakes have extra-ordinariness and beautiful nature, so because of that they are the right place for rest and recreation. So, now is the time to show the beauty of Lake Malawi.

The local inhabitants call it “Lake of stars”, because at night paraffin lamps illuminate the entire water surface and the view is magnificent.

Lake Malawi is located in Africa, particularly in the East African Rift. Its surface lies at an altitude of 500 meters and occupies an area of 29 600 sq km, which makes the third lake in Africa and the ninth largest in the world. With visibility of the water more than 20 meters of the lake is also one of the clearest in the world. Divided between three African countries, most of the lake or the southern and western components are parts of Malawi, the north-eastern parts of the lake belong to Tanzania and the eastern section of the lake is part of Mozambique. Malawi is the meridian elongated lake with a length of about 600km and maximum width of 80 km.

From the Lake Malawi expires River Shire which is left tributary of the Zambezi River. It is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, due to different endemic fish world. Malawi Lake is the habitat of most fish species of the world. Because of the depth, water clarity is quite big and therefore freshness of the lake is a real challenge for divers. However, there is a risk of infection with the parasitic worm, so visitors who want to swim or dive first need to take proper medical treatment.
