Europe is one of the most popular continents in the world, at least as far as international tourism is concerned. It’s not hard to see why this is when you consider the contributions European civilisations have made to the world. Places like Serbia, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom are steeped in history.
If you are planning on taking a trip to Europe, then figuring out what to see first can be very difficult (because there’s so much on offer). This post will help you by telling you the places you should prioritise on your trip there.
Berlin
Berlin is Germany’s capital city. It is most famous for the Berlin Wall, which separated East and West Germany. However, there’s a lot more to see in Berlin than just the remnants of the Berlin Wall. Kreuzberg is one of the best areas to stay in Berlin as a tourist because there are lots of bars, clubs, cafés, restaurants, and hotels. However, if you are travelling with family then Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is probably the best district to stay in it. It’s a lot quieter and more relaxed than Kreuzberg.
Belgrade
Belgrade is Serbia’s capital city. It has been settled for over 4,000 years, making it one of the oldest and most continually inhabited places in all of Europe. Belgrade’s fascinating history can be seen on almost every corner. The city is famous for its beautiful architecture, amazing castle, and hospitable locals. The city also has a thriving arts scene, so if you are interested in poetry, modern art, or cinema you will find lots to do there. One great thing about Belgrade is that it is an extremely affordable city to travel in unlike many of the other places listed here in this post, but it has just as much charm and character as them.
London
London was the former centre of the British Empire, an empire that ruled over a third of the world. Unsurprisingly, there are a lot of historical sites and monuments there. London’s history extends much further into the past than just the British Empire, however. It was at one time inhabited by the Romans. In fact, in London’s City of London district, you can find an intact Roman wall. There are also many hidden mosaics and underground Roman chambers in the city, many of which you can visit for free.
Paris
Paris’s main attraction is the Eiffel Tower. However, there’s a lot more to see than just that. If you have never travelled there before, then you should know that it’s an extremely expensive city, perhaps the most expensive on this list. This is in part due to the fact that Paris has been associated with luxury for centuries, and therefore, people pay more to travel there. If you are planning a trip to Paris, then consider booking a hotel on the city’s outskirts. Staying just outside the city will help you to save money.
Rome
Rome is an incredibly interesting city with a lot of history. It is a mix of old and new. City streets are a mix of Roman, Renaissance, and modern buildings. If you are planning on visiting, then it’s worth a trip to the Vatican City, a separate city-state located in the centre of Rome. You do not need a visa to get into the Vatican City, however, you do need a ticket if you want to get into the city’s museum. St. Paul’s Basilica is free to enter, however. Tickets to get into the Vatican Museum are widely available and very affordable.
Athens
Athens is another city steeped in history. Most people visit to see the Acropolis, which overlooks the city. However, there’s a lot more to Athens than just the Acropolis. If you have never been, then consider booking a hotel in the city’s heart, so you can experience local cuisine, nightlife, and culture. There are some incredible beaches around Athens too. If you enjoy swimming, fishing, or kayaking then you’re bound to have a good time there. During the summer hotels can be very expensive in Athens. It’s a good idea to visit during the winter or spring if you are on a budget and want to save money.
Santorini
Santorini is the most famous of the Greek Islands. The reason it’s famous is because of its immense beauty. It is one of the most photographed places in the world. If you have never been, then no matter when you travel it’s going to be expensive. Book your hotel early so you can secure a place, as rooms sell out fast.
Europe is a fun place to go on vacation. There is a lot to see and do there. If you have never been, then give the places mentioned here in this post some consideration. They are the most popular (and interesting) of all of Europe’s cities.
