Easter is one of the biggest holidays that are celebrated in the Christian world. Each country has its own tradition and unique atmosphere for the holiday. Look at a few places where you can find a particularly interesting Easter festive atmosphere.
1. Tokyo, Japan
Easter is the best time to visit Japan, because then familiar Sakura tree with cherry color is blooming. The first flower actually blooming in Okinawa in January and appears in Tokyo in late March and early April. Spring time is right for picnics under the Sakura tree.
2. Jerusalem, Israel
Hundreds of thousands of people gather in Jerusalem at Easter. There are numerous ceremonies for the occasion. The culmination is the Palm Sunday when the people celebrate the entry of Christ into Jerusalem. After the Liturgy in the church of God Grave ceremony continues to the Old Town.
3. Rome, Italy
Romans celebrate their most important Catholic holiday and although it is one of the busiest times of the year, the atmosphere is warm where thousands of people come to worship in the city. Visit the Vatican, join the procession of Stations of the Cross through the streets of Rome or just Indulge to attractions as Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum.
4. São Brás de Alportel, Portugal
On Easter morning the whole town gathers to take part in a unique ceremony and with colorful flowers and decorations to decorate the streets. The procession sets off from the main church and it is led by the priests. Many people shout slogans like “Christ is Risen” and “Hallelujah.”
5. Seville, Spain
There you can see numerous grim ceremonies of people with a hood, carrying statues of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary. They are followed by barefoot believers with crosses and musicians with drums. The biggest procession starts in the early hours of Holy Friday.
6. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The streets are overflowing with flowers and the sounds of samba touch from anywhere around. Shops sell special cakes to mark the event and when the work is finished for the day, the residents of the city heading to Copacabana, swimming or play volleyball on the beach. All this happens under the watchful eye and widespread arms of Cristo Redentor.
