Get a Closer Look at Himeji Castle in Japan

Himeji Castle is a hilltop Japanese castle complex that is located in Himeji in Japan. The city Himeji by itself is a big with population of over 0.5 million people. This city has some history, but one thing that is important is that in 1923 after the Great Kanto earthquake, Japanese government considered moving the nation’s capital from Tokyo to Himeji.

The Himeji Castle was build from 1333 to 1346. It was expanded 3 times in 1581, 1601-1609 and 1617-1618. The castle is built by wood, stone, plaster and tile. It was in use from 1333 till 1868. At the moment Himeji Castle is under restoration work for preservation and can be visited by tourists.

The castle itself have a lake and Japanese gardens, and the view is unique in the springs during the Sakura period – the cherry blossom.

The Himeji Castle is 46.4m high (152 ft.) and found on the hilltop above Himeji City, it has great view. You can see the whole city including the surrounding area.

Inside Himeji Castle

The tourists can visit Himeji Castle and observe the history that is hidden here. The castle keep is closed, but others places in the complex can be visited. Inside the castle is hidden the culture of the people from the past, and every traveler should visit this castle and live through it.
