Sumela Monastery is a Greek monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary. According to the legend, the monastery was founded by two Greek priests named Barnabas and Sophronios in 386 AD during the reign of the Roman Emperor Theodosius I (379 – 395) who is also known as Flavius Theodosius. It was abounded in 1923 and later became museum and popular tourist destination in Turkey because it’s spectacular location, structure, and mind blowing frescoes dating from the 18th century.

Sumela Monastery is a 1600 years old Greek Orthodox monastery. The monastery is situated at 1200 meters height on the steep cliff. It is located near Macka region of Trabzon city in Turkey. His breathtaking location (it is constructed on the rocks), structure and scenery makes Sumela Monastery one of the most spectacular and most visited places in Turkey.
