Great Blue Hole, Belize

The famous adventurer Jacques Cousteau helped Belize to turn into a real tourist attraction, when in the year 1971 introduced the Big Blue Sea hole as one of the best places for diving in the world. It has almost perfect circular shape. With its 125 meters depth and diameter of 300 meters, is the largest natural Sea hole and definitely rarely visible attraction.

According to analysis by scientists, it was created about 65,000 years due to a sharp increase in sea level. This blue “hole” is located in the center of coral reef in Belize, a few tens of kilometers of coastline.
Perfect circle with crystal blue water occurred as a result of destruction of the seabed during the ice age, when the place had a dry cave system filled with stalactites and columns.

The hole was crumbling at least four times in the period between 10,000 and 150,000 years. Each time the level of the ocean rises up, in a cave filled with water and the bottom was becoming deeper. Finally the roof collapsed and the whole formation and the water level is raised to the current level. Today this system is considered as unique vertical cave.

This process of creation of the Great Blue Sea Hole gave spectacular color that attracts numerous visitors from around the world. It is not only because of the beauty, but also because of the diverse marine fauna that can be found only in this place.
We should be happy because our planet served us such natural beauty. Our job is to consume that beauty and enjoy the best that it offers.
