Every winter, starting in 1991, about 50,000 visitors from around the world come to see the famous Icehotel and to experience the various activities in the wild, about 200 kilometers from the Arctic Circle. The building covers 5,500 square meters. Icehotel is constructed of about 2,000 tons of ice from the Torne River and about 30,000 tons of a mixture of snow and ice that reinforce the structure. About 100 people a year participate in the construction of the amazing Icehotel, out of which half are artists specially invited to design certain parts of the interior.
In the hotel everything is literally built of ice, from beds, chairs, chandeliers, bars, to many ice sculptures crafted by the hands of humans.

Construction of the Icehotel is a year-round process. In March and April, the ice is harvested from the Torne River and it is kept in cold storage during the summer. Construction takes place in November and December when the entire Icehotel is open from December to mid-April. Then the structure slowly begins to break down and melt.
For guests visiting the Icehotel is unique, but freezing experience. The most brave will have the opportunity to sleep on beds of ice covered with reindeer leather. Also, the travelers can drink ice drinks in the ice bar, or to be married in the Ice Chapel.
