At the same time, Kaikoura is the best place in the world to see open ocean seabirds such as molly-mawks, petrels, yellow eyed and little blue penguins, shear waters and albatrosses. Also there are many walking tracks up and through the mountains and the panoramic view of the Kaikoura peninsula from the summit is amazing.
