In order to avoid monotony and simplicity, some architects decided to experiment and play a bit with their imagination and that way to bring some unique elements to the cities they were building. As a result of their brave spirit today we have many picturesque and colorful cities that look rather like fairy tales than ordinary cities. We would like to make a highlight of the better-known ones and make you want to catch the next flight and go and enjoy their beauty indeed. Below you can see some of the most picturesque and colorful inhabited areas in the world.
1. Gjogv, Faroe Island
I bet you never knew that the Faroe Island owns one of the most peaceful yet enjoyable places on earth. Gjogv is a village that got the name after a 200 meter long sea-filled gorge that runs north to the sea. The place is a real fairy tale!

2. Cobh, Ireland
The town of Cobh that used to be called Queenstown up until 1920 is a seaport town on the south coast of Ireland. The little small houses all around the town give it a special look with their unique and different colors.

3. Stavanger, Norway
It is one of the most picturesque and colorful inhabited areas. Stavanher is a city and a municipality in Norway. It is known as the third largest city in the country. The wooden houses from the 18th and 19th century are protected and considered as the trademark of the city and as a cultural heritage of the same place.

4. Bellagio, Italy
Bellagio is a municipality in the province of Como in Lombardy, Italy. It is located on the lake Como. It is interesting that the arms of the lake form an inverted Y, called the Larian Triangle. This place has always been famous and attractive for its location as it is located just behind the Alps so not just the colorful streets but the mountain views are a real fairy tale.

5. Toledo, Spain
It is another picturesque and colorful inhabited areas. Toledo is the capital city of the province of Toledo and the community of Castile-La Mancha is located in central Spain. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 for the rich cultural heritage and for the peaceful co-existence of Jewish, Christian and Muslim cultures over the years of the rich Spanish history.
