Salzburg captures with elegance and charm and attracts many sophisticated art lovers. Salzburg is the second largest city in Austria and the capital of the province, with a population of 150,000 inhabitants. This city covers an area of 7.155km2 or 8.5% of the total area of Austria. Salzburg is located 300 km from Vienna, on the border with Germany. Situated on the River Salzach, surrounded by mountains, it is divided into two parts – old and new town. The old town is abound with beautiful cathedrals built in the Gothic and Baroque style and some of them are dating from the tenth century. In the Second World War many of these unique buildings were unfortunately destroyed. Symbol of the city is the old fortress Hohensalzburg, located on the hill Mochsnberg. You can see that castle from all parts of the city and today is a major tourist attraction.

If you already go for a walk around the city, make sure that you will see the cathedral in the city. Salzburger Dom is a perfect blend of architectural splendor and amazing structure. Also there is the cathedral square immediately before Salzburger Cathedral Dom, and nearby there is a statue of Madonna which is made by Johann Baptist Hagenauer. The memorial house of Mozart it is located in the middle of the Mozartplatz Square. Salzburg is also under the protection of UNESCO, and will allow you to enjoy the streets of the beautiful Baroque architecture, numerous theaters, music halls and galleries. The name of the city is composed of the German word for salt – Salz which tells us that there are the salt mines in the vicinity of the town.
