Situated along the breathtaking Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia, the Twelve Apostles stands as a captivating collection of limestone stacks within the scenic Port Campbell National Park. This iconic natural wonder has become a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the globe to marvel at its striking coastal beauty.

The Twelve Apostles were sculpted by the relentless forces of erosion, a result of the challenging weather conditions stemming from the Southern Ocean. Over time, the relentless waves and winds gradually carved out caves in the soft limestone cliffs, shaping them into majestic arches. Eventually, the arches succumbed to nature’s forces, leading to the formation of awe-inspiring rock stacks that reach heights of up to 45 meters.

Originally known as the Sow and Piglets until 1922, with Muttonbird Island near Loch Ard Gorge identified as the Sow and smaller rock stacks as the Piglets, the site underwent a transformative name change for tourism purposes. Renamed “The Apostles,” this remarkable formation continued to capture the imagination of all who visited, even though it initially comprised only nine stacks.
